DAY 1 – ARRIVAL DAY Monday, 4 Aug 2025
 

Welcome to Scotland! In the arrivals hall you will meet your guide who is going to look after you over the duration of your trip. They will take you out to your coach, where once your luggage is loaded your Scotland Adventure begins. Your first stop is Glamis Castle, this wonderful castle has much to see and learn and you will have a very special welcome and tour followed by coffee and biscuits.
The Gin Bothy after is just around the corner, a stunning little shop and a bit of Gin Tasting to get the taste buds working properly. Then you make your way up the coast road to Aberdeen, Dunnottar Castle is a shell, but the impressive structure stands on the cliffs edge, for those with the energy you can go and explore, for everyone else, purchase a coffee and sit and enjoy the view. One little added stop is for those who like their bikes, the small lodge that half of Harley Davidson lived before emigrating to America, now run by fanatatics of the brand, it is a curiosity visit for a few minutes.
These evening once you have checked in to your hotel, which is on the outskirts of the city, evening dinner is arranged, a light casual affair, before a well deserved early night.

■ Davidson Legacy Cottage Davidson is the restored home of William C Davidson, father of the founding sons of Harley Davidson. The story of the Davidson family from Scotland who helped form the famous motorcycle company ‘Harley Davidson’
Davidson Legacy Cottage is a small cottage set in the heart of Angus Scotland, known previously as the Netherton Cottage. The name of the cottage derives from the story of the Davidson family who helped form the famous motorcycle company ‘Harley Davidson’. Harley Davidson was started by three Davidson brothers and William Harley in 1903 in Milwaukee USA.
The cottage was home to the Davidsons father, William C. Davidson, who was born and raised there until the age of 11years. He then emigrated to America with his family in 1857 where he became a man, married another Scottish emigrant and raised his own family. William didn’t know it at the time, but he helped create an American icon when he built the very first Harley-Davidson workshop for his sons. The 10’x 15′ workshop affectionately referred to as “The Shed” was the foundations for the ‘Motor Company’ to develop from.
The Davidson Legacy Cottage is a step back in time to a period of no running water, no inside toilet or fully fitted kitchen. The cottage was rescued in 2008 and restored by Mike Sinclair, Maggie Sherrit, and Keith Mackintosh who created ‘The Davidson Legacy.
The cottage has welcomed thousands of visitors from around the world to see the historic home. Visitors are welcomed with options of tea and coffee are free to view the cottage on their own or request a guided tour and sign the visitors book.

DAY 2 – SHEEP, BATTLEFIELDS & MONSTERS Tuesday, 5 Aug 2025

Today you experience, local culture, bloody history and Scottish Myths. A short drive from your hotel is the farm of Michelle & Gary, a young couple who run a sheep farm, thay also have award winning sheep dogs, they will give you all a private demonstration of their working dogs on their farm. Then it is a drive through the picturesque rural Scotland countryside towards Inverness, where you will visit Colloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre, then after lunch a 50 minute Loch Ness Cruise, before heading back to your hotel for the evening.
■ Aberdeenshire Sheepdogs


Aberdeenshire Sheepdogs offers a unique opportunity to experience sheepdogs at work. Join Michelle and Gary Bruce as they share their experiences working Border Collies and stories about life on a sheep farm. You will meet the dogs and have the opportunity to see them at work, gaining firsthand experience of what it’s like to work with these intelligent and highly skilled animals.

Visit the powerfully moving site of the final Jacobite Rising – the last and most harrowing pitched battle to be fought on British soil. Cruise the Loch and view the castle on this 50-minute voyage across the deepest, mysterious waters of Loch Ness. From here, treat those peepers – and your camera – to the breathtaking sight of the historic Urquhart Castle.
Our onboard audio is bursting with lots of facts and legends to tune into as you sail. And don’t forget to look out for Nessie, with a little help from our onboard sonar.
Parking facilities are available at Clansman Harbour. This is free of charge, however, can be limited during peak season. We recommend you arrive 45 minutes before your departure time. There are no bike racks available at The Clansman Hotel. Should you be re-directed to the overflow carpark, this is approx a 15-minute walk, on uneven terrain to the harbour.

DAY 3 – ABERDEEN TO PERTH Wednesday, 6 Aug 2025

You depart Aberdeen today and head across to the centre of the country to the Royal Families summer retreat Balmoral Castle, take a tour around and then head to Braemar for a visit to The Highland Games Centre. Next down to the town of Pitlochry where you can visit and have a demonstration at Ian Burnetts Chocolatier Shop.
■ Balmoral Castle
Visit the grounds, gardens, exhibitions and Ballroom at Balmoral. The tour lasts approximately one hour and a quarter and guides you around the grounds and gardens. The highlight of the visit is the Ballroom, which is the only room open to visitors in the Castle.
After your tour you can visit our new refurbished Mews Gift Shop, where you will find a wide range of gifts, both Scottish and Royal. You can also purchase light refreshments from the Coffee Pod at the Main Gates or the refreshment hatch at the Pipers Hall.
Balmoral Castle has been the Scottish home of the Royal Family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852, having been first leased in 1848. In the autumn of 1842, two and a half years after her marriage to Prince Albert, Queen Victoria paid her first visit to Scotland. They were so struck with the Highlands that they resolved to return. A further visit to Perthshire and then Ardverikie encouraged them to seize the opportunity to purchase Balmoral. After searching enquiries they bought the estate on the 17th February 1848 and on 8th September 1848 they arrived to take possession of a property they had never seen, but to which they had committed themselves for many years to come. They were not disappointed and when they returned South they opened negotiations for the purchase of the land on which Balmoral stood.
■ Braemar Highland Games Centre
The Braemar Gathering has been a highlight of the sporting calendar since at least 1832. Nestled beneath bucolic, heather-strewn mountains, it is the most prominent and well-attended Highland games, drawing vast crowds from all over the globe. From March 2019, visitors will also be able to enjoy the Highland Games Centre. The centre incorporates an exhibition hall, gallery, archive, café and shop. The exhibition explores the living traditions of the Highland games, focusing on the Braemar Gathering and its long-standing royal connections.
Housed in The Duke of Rothesay Highland Games Pavilion, the stunning new building was unveiled by Her Majesty The Queen in September 2018. The building is named in honour of HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay, a keen supporter of the project through his charity The Prince’s Foundation.
■ Pitlochry is a small town in Scotland that is abundant in charm and scenery. Many visitors love Pitlochry, returning here yearly to enjoy the wide range of attractions and activities. DAY 4 – A HIGHLAND SAFARI Thursday, 7 Aug 2025

Today you will take a different mode of transport and head into The Highlands on your Highland Safari, you will all then have lunch with those who wish to try a little Axe Throwing. Then it is back to the hotel mid-afternoon to relax and use their facilites a Spa for those that like.

DAY 5 – STIRLING & THE TROSSACHS Friday, 8 Aug 2025

Today you move to your next very special hotel, just 20 minutes outside of the city, but we have added a bit of a detour, Stirling is home to both Scotland’s most famous castle and The Trossachs National Park, home to a Bird Santuary that looks after some amazing Birds of Prey, and you will enjoy a personal demonstration.
■ Stirling Castle
Stirling is one of Scotland’s greatest stone castles – an icon integral on how to understand the nation’s story. The castle peaked in importance in the 1500s, but its volcanic crag has been fortified since ancient times.
Generations of Scottish monarchs have enlarged, adapted and embellished Stirling Castle. Explore its three main enclosures, and then admire the refurbished Royal Palace – childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots. The palace’s lavish design drew on European Renaissance fashions to show off James V’s power and good taste.
The palace interiors have been recreated as they may have looked when the Scottish king’s grand scheme was complete. Costumed characters mingle with visitors, bringing the royal Stewart Court to life.

DAY 6 – THE BORDERLANDS Saturday, 9 Aug 2025

■ Breakfast at the hotel
Today you journey down to the borders, first with a visit to The Holy Islands, have to catch it right with the tide, and then lunch and a tour at Bamburgh Castle, still privately owned and hopefuly we get to meet Claire the owner or as we like to call her Queen of Bamburgh. Finla stop of the day will be in Selkirk and a Kilt and Tartan Factory and shop for a tour and history lesson. Then it is back to Edinburgh for another free evening.
■ Holy Island is a pint-sized island that holds pubs and cafés a-plenty, coastal Lindisfarne Castle and ancient Lindisfarne Priory. Always check safe crossing times before visiting Holy Island, as it becomes separated from the rest of the world and completely inaccessible twice a day due to the tide. Words cannot describe the magic of The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, particularly as you cross the causeway, admiring staggering views as you go, and feel as though you are entering a secret world as you approach the island.
This place of worship, tranquillity and breath-taking beauty was the home of St Cuthbert, who allegedly held the power of spiritual healing. Cruise across the causeway and you’ll find the 12th century Lindisfarne Priory, the epicentre of Christianity in Anglo Saxon times and once the home of St Oswald. Ransacked by marauding Viking raiders in the 8th century, the evocative ruins of Lindisfarne Priory include the famous ‘rainbow bridge’ which spirals skywards with the ghost of a long-vanished tower.
Perched on a rocky plateau overlooking the island sits Lindisfarne Castle, which holds its own history predominantly marked by military defence. From around 1570 onwards, garrisons of soldiers were placed here to man weapons and keep their eyes on the horizon for potential trouble. Based on the impeccable condition of the castle when it was discovered in 1901, it is thought that the military history here was a relatively quiet one. Today, National Trust look after the castle so you can enjoy the fabulous architecture and the striking sea views.Holy Island remains a place of pilgrimage today, and is the final destination of long distance walking route and one of Scotland’s Great Trails, the St Cuthbert’s Way. Take things in your stride with a guided walk across the causeway, or take a look at Walks on Holy Island for some route ideas for exploring independently.
As well as the wealth of history within its tidal walls, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne has an exciting array of wildlife. Its island status protects tidal mudflats, saltmarshes and dunes which together form the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve. Look out for wildfowl in the autumn and wading birds over winter on the reserve. Plus, spot pale-bellied brent geese flying in from Svalbard (Spitsbergen) to spend the winter on Holy Island and grey seals bobbing in the waters and sunbathing on the sands.
Pick up a coffee and pastry from one of the island’s cafes, such as Pilgrim’s Coffee House and Roastery who roast their own coffee on-site. Or, have lunch or an evening meal in one of Holy Island’s pubs and restaurants. Just remember to give yourself plenty of time to leave the island based on safe crossing times, unless you are staying overnight, of course!
A word of caution: Be sure to check for safe crossing times on the causeway’s notice board before journeying to Holy Island. Berwick Tourist Information Centre has full details of both the tides and bus service to the island.
■ Bamburgh Castle has stood guard above the spectacular Northumberland coastline for over 1,400 years. Spanning nine acres of land on its rocky plateau, Bamburgh Castle is one of the largest inhabited castles in the country.
Bebbanburg, Uhtred’s ancestral home, is now known as Bamburgh. Although much of the filming for The Last Kingdom took place in Hungary, some of the battle scenes from season three were indeed filmed on Bamburgh beach in the shadow of the famous castle. The castle interior doesn’t appear in The Last Kingdom – it’s been substantially redecorated since the ninth century. But it will be familiar to viewers of Downton Abbey, the Harry Potter films and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Tours of our authentic mill and warehouse are available, where visitors can observe our production process first-hand. The guide will take you through all aspects of production, from dyeing the yarn through to the finished garment while touring the facility.

DAY 7 – INTO EDINBURGH CITY Sunday, 10 Aug 2025

Today you leave your castle and go into Edinburgh itself for your final few days. Enroute though a planned stop in Falkirk, to see the amazing Falkirk Wheel in action, The Kelpies and then in the afternoon, take a classic train journey while having afternoon tea. Then it will be off to the city to check in and have a free evening.
■ Falkirk
An Eaglais Bhreac is a derivative formed from the Scottish Gaelic cognate of the first recorded name Egglesbreth from the Brittonic for “speckled church”, presumably referring to a church building built of many-coloured stones. The Scottish Gaelic name was calqued into Scots as Fawkirk (literally “variegated church”), then later amended to the modern English name of Falkirk. The Latin name Varia Capella also has the same meaning. Falkirk Old Parish Church stands on the site of the medieval church, which may have been founded as early as the 7th century.
The Antonine Wall, which stretches across the centre of Scotland, passed through the town and remnants of it can be seen at Callendar Park. Similar to Hadrian’s Wall but built of turf rather than stone so less of it has survived, it marked the northern frontier of the Roman Empire between the Firth of Forth and Firth of Clyde during the AD 140s. Much of the best evidence of Roman occupation in Scotland has been found in Falkirk, including a large hoard of Roman coins and a cloth of tartan, thought to be the oldest ever recorded. A Roman fort was confirmed to be found by Geoff Bailey in the Pleasance area of Falkirk in 1991. A Roman themed park at Callendar House was awarded lottery funding to help raise awareness of the wall.
In the 18th century the area was the cradle of Scotland’s Industrial Revolution, becoming the earliest major centre of the iron-casting industry. James Watt cast some of the beams for his early steam engine designs at the Carron Iron Works in 1765. The area was at the forefront of canal construction when the Forth and Clyde Canal opened in 1790. The Union Canal (1822) provided a link to Edinburgh and early railway development followed in the 1830s and 1840s. The canals brought economic wealth to Falkirk and led to the town’s growth. Through time, trunk roads and motorways followed the same canal corridors through the Falkirk area, linking the town with the rest of Scotland. Many companies set up work in Falkirk due to its expansion. A large brickworks was set up at this time, owned by the Howie family. During the 19th century, Falkirk became the first town in Great Britain to have a fully automated system of street lighting, designed and implemented by a local firm, Thomas Laurie & Co Ltd.

Edinburgh Castle is a world-famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site.
A mighty fortress, the defender of the nation and a world-famous visitor attraction – Edinburgh Castle has dominated the skyline for centuries.
This most famous of Scottish castles has a complex building history. The oldest part, St Margaret’s Chapel, dates from the 12th century; the Great Hall was erected by James IV around 1510; the Half Moon Battery by the Regent Morton in the late 16th century; and the Scottish National War Memorial after the First World War.
The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One o’ Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.
■ The Royal Mile runs between two significant locations in the royal history of Scotland: Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. The name derives from it being the traditional processional route of monarchs, with a total length of approximately one Scots mile, a now obsolete measurement measuring 1.81km. The streets which make up the Royal Mile are (west to east) Castlehill, the Lawnmarket, the High Street, the Canongate and Abbey Strand. The Royal Mile is the busiest tourist street in the Old Town, rivalled only by Princes Street in the New Town.

Today, the Palace is a close focus for national celebrations and events in Scotland, most notably The Queen’s ‘Holyrood Week’, which usually runs from the end of June to the beginning of July every year.

DAY 9 – FREE DAY – EDINBURGH TATTOO Tuesday, 12 Aug 2025

Today is a free day, to relax, shop, visit other parts of the city you may want to explore. This evening you can take your seats at one of the most amazing live show’s around.
■ The story began over seven decades ago and had humble beginnings. It was inspired by a simple show called ‘Something About a Soldier’ performed in 1949 at the Ross Bandstand. The bandstand is still there, in Princes Street Gardens just below the Castle. Make sure to look out for it when you visit. Lieutenant Colonel George Malcolm was the first Producer of The Edinburgh Tattoo. He aimed to bring the Army’s contribution to the Edinburgh International Festival to life. From a modest event in a park to today’s global showcase at the Castle.
Set against the backdrop of Edinburgh’s imposing castle, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is one of the most special events in Edinburgh’s calendar. Bringing together audiences from across the globe, the Edinburgh Tattoo celebrates the skills and talents of military bands and display teams from the British Armed Forces, the Commonwealth and military teams throughout the world.
There are few such moving festival moments, a fact to which any of the over 220,000 people who experience it live every year can attest – not to mention the further 100 million watching on television around the globe! Audiences get into the spirit and stamp and cheer to the sounds of the military pipes and drums, clap to the highland dancers and watch in awe at some of the daredevil feats of accomplished motorcyclists or intricate marching formations.
The sounds of the bands can be heard throughout the city, followed by the cheers of the audience, the roar of military jets flying over the city, and finally the glorious fireworks that colour the night sky.
