Tanzania At 947,300 square kilometres (365,800 sq mi), Tanzania is the world’s 31st-largest country and the 13th largest in Africa. Tanzania is mountainous in the northeast, where Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, is situated. Three of Africa’s Great Lakes are partly within Tanzania. The eastern shore is tripical and humid, with the Zanzibar Archipelago just offshore. Tanzania contains many large and ecologically significant wildlife parks and reserves, including the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, and the Serengeti National Parks in the north and the Nyerere, Ruaha, and Mikumi National Parka in the south. Gombe Stream National Park in the west is known as the site of Dr. Jane Goodall’s studies of chimpanzee behaviour. Tanzania has considerable wildlife habitat, including much of the Serengeti plains, where the white-bearded wildebeest and other bovids participate in a large-scale annual migration. Tanzania is also home to 130 amphibian and over 275 reptile species, many of them strictly endemic making it very rich in its biodiversity.

With breaking down obstacles for disabled Tanzanians and a commitment to environmentally sustainable business practises as its core values, Shanga is a for-profit company that raises standards. Now comprised of a bustling workshop, open-air restaurant and trendy boutique, Shanga has grown exponentially from what started with one beaded necklace and a desire to help those in need. Ngorongoro Serena Lodge
Perched on the jagged rim of the crater, wreathed in morning mist, camouflaged in river-stone and cloaked in indigenous creepers, the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural fusion. Sensitively constructed so as to take nothing from its environment whilst affording endless vistas over the heat-shimmering reaches of the crater below, the clustered boulder-built buildings of the Lodge hug the crater rim, linked by rope-lashed timber walkways that skirt the buttressed roots of ancient, liana-hung trees. The Lodge has a total of seventy five rooms. Each room draws on a cave-grey, indigo-blue and jasper red colour-scheme and enjoys uninterrupted views over the Crater’s unmatched splendour. Each room has a rock-enclosed balcony.

Siringit Serengeti Camp
This luxurious camp consists of 8 accommodation tents, each measuring 45 square metres to include a private verandah. Each tent sits atop a wooden platform raised 30 centimeters from the ground and will have a generous sleeping area complete with lounge space. An ensuite bathroom with his and hers wash hand basins, large shower and proper flush toilet completes each guest tent. A great deal of thought has gone into the detail of each tent and, as you would expect in a property of this standard, an in-tent safe, hairdryer, toweling robes, leather fasteners with brass buckles on windows and doors and an array of other carefully thought out finishing touches are only some of the surprises in store for guests Because of its natural beauty and the abundance of wildlife to be found in the area, the management of the Tanzania National Parks chose this site to host a group of visiting officials from Yellow Stone National Park in the United States. The site still appears on many official maps of the Serengeti National Park as Yellow Stone. This camp has therefore managed to obtain a perfect location. The famous Hippo pool, the Serengeti Research Centre and the departure point for balloon Safaris are also conveniently close by.

Located about 30 minutes from the Mara River in a small kopje, the camp fits naturally into its surroundings amongst the trees and boulders with an infinity pool set within a natural cave. The Camp has been strategically located away from the hustle and bustle of safari vehicles whilst retaining easy access to the river and views of the amazing wildebeest migration crossings.

Service Information
Meet and Greet Services – Airport
For arriving passengers: Upon existing your international flight and arriving at the airport terminal, you will be met by a team member holding a sign with your name. This will be just before you reach the immigration area (not on the air bridge). You will thereafter be fast tracked through all airport formalities including visa, immigration and customs assistance, baggage collection and introduction with your driver after exiting the arrivals terminal.
Upon request, this service can also be arranged for international departure passengers and connecting passengers (especially useful during tight connections). All clients passport copies must be received in advance in order to expedite the immigration process. Maasai Boma Visit The Maasai are an indigenous ethnic group of semi-nomadic people living in northern Tanzania and Kenya. For hundreds of years, the Maasai have lived in harmony with the wildlife and the environment around them. Today, there are some 42,000 Maasai pastoralists living in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with their cattle, donkeys, goats and sheep. During the rains they move out on to the open plains; in the dry season they move into the adjacent woodlands and mountain slopes. The Maasai are allowed to take their animals into the Crater for water and grazing, but not to live or cultivate there. Elsewhere in the Conservation Area they have the right to roam freely. Masai culture is intricate and fascinating. Roles are determined by age, wealth and position in the community. Men are warriors and herders, and cattle play a central role in their lives. Maasai families live in small traditional bomas which are made from mud, sticks, grass and cow dung. Maasai women create colourful beaded jewellery for body ornamentation. It is worn by all Maasai people with patterns determined by age. One can visit the Maasai Cultural Bomas to learn more about their unique culture, to take photographs, and to buy small souvenirs. The location of the boma will be selected based on the best route for your itinerary on the safari circuit.
Night Game Drive
The African bush certainly does not sleep at night! Learn about and encounter Africa’s elusive nocturnal creatures on a night drive, whether you are searching for the rare pangolin or watching a leopard hunt, you will be surprised by what goes on after dark.
Crater Floor Banquet-After your scenic descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, enjoy a tasty hot lunch served in breathtaking surroundings at a private picnic spot on the Crater floor. Personalised butler service combines with breathtaking surroundings in the midst of the wildlife action. Surrounded by game and the ever-present Crater rim, this is the most dramatic and beautiful lunch you are ever likely to take.
Serengeti Balloon Safari – SERENGETI (optional)
Float in a hot air balloon over the famous Serengeti National Park with its enchanting scenery and amazing wildlife. This may be the most beautiful area in the world for a balloon flight. There are no power lines, fences and few roads. This is an exclusive excursion over the Serengeti plains, offering unparalleled panoramic views of the awe-inspiring landscape. A very popular excursion for those of our clients willing to spend that little bit extra, and can be added on to any safari that includes a night in the Serengeti, at any of the lodges. Only two balloons fly each day, each with a capacity of only 16 people. Your balloon safari adventure starts early morning when you depart your lodge or camp at 0500. It is still dark and you may be fortunate to see nocturnal animals on the way to the launch site. When you arrive, you will meet your pilot and witness your balloon being inflated and prepared for launch. After a thorough safety briefing and demonstration of boarding and landing position you board your balloon and lift off for a one hour flight! Rising as the sun rises your balloon floats in whatever direction the winds of the day are heading over this wonderful area. As you float over the plains in the increasing light, the pilot will take you up to at least 1,000 foot altitude for a breathtaking panoramic view of the plains. Much of the remainder of the flight will be at a tree-top or even grass-top level for some close up views of the wildlife, flora and fauna below. On landing, you are met by the ground support team with a bottle of champagne. Then its off to a special Out of Africa’ breakfast, which will have been set up under a fine umbrella tree close to the landing spot. You are served a full cooked English breakfast with some tropical additions – a fine spread served on bone china with silver cutlery and crystal glasses making a memorable finale to your adventure. The balloon safari is complete at around 0900am, and you are returned to the meeting point to be met by our driver-guide to continue with further activities. As this is an early morning excursion, you can add this on even if you are in a group where not all members would like to participate. In case of cancellation by the operating company due to climatic conditions or any other reason, you will have the option of a flight the following morning if this fits into your itinerary, or a full refund. Passengers weighing above 120 kgs/265 lb/19 stone will be charged for two and provided two places.
Flights by Light Aircraft-Travelling into and out of bush airstrips is an exciting adventure. It allows you to fly over some of the most scenic landscapes in Africa, and offers a unique perspective from what you will have seen from your safari vehicle. Specially selected Cessna Grand Caravans tend to operate the flights, due to their versatile nature and ability to handle bush conditions with ease. Please note that soft bags are reccommended for these flights due to limited luggage capacity. Weight allowance for luggage is 15kg per person unless additional luggage allowance is purchased in advance.
Lunch at Arusha Coffee Lodge A meal at the Arusha Coffee Lodge is an aromatic and sensory experience. Location and Park Information
Tarangire National Park
Tarangire National Park covers an area of 2,600 sq km and is located 118kms southwest of Arusha. The park offers wonderful panoramas of wide savannah grasslands dotted with open acacia woodland studded with large Baobab trees. The park is a dry season refuge for many migratory animals (elephants, wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, eland and buffalo), that spend many months of the year outside the park on traditional grazing corridors linking Tarangire with other protected areas.Elephants can be seen in herds, along with masses of wildebeest, zebra, eland, hartebeest, buffalo and oryx, who, migrate from the dry Maasai steppe to the gleaming Tarangire River in search of water during the dry season. The river may reduce in size, but always provides some water for these animals who gather in great numbers along its banks. Mobs of elephant are easily encountered in the park, whether wet or dry season. The swamps, are the focus for a 550 bird varieties. On drier grounds you find the Kori bustard, the heaviest flying bird; the stocking-thighed ostrich, the world’s largest bird; and small parties of ground hornbills blustering like turkeys.
Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is situated 180 km west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania. The conservation area is 8,300 sq km and is administered by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, an arm of the Tanzanian government, and its boundaries follow the boundary of the Ngorongoro Division of Ngorongoro District. The conservation area boasts a blend of landscapes, wildlife, people and archaeology. The volcanoes, grasslands, waterfalls and mountain forests are home to an abundance of animals and to the Maasai. Ngorongoro Crater is one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles; its magical setting and abundant wildlife never fail to enthral visitors. It borders the Serengeti National Park to the north and west. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, established in 1959, is a pioneering experiment in multiple land use. Here pastoralism, conservation and tourism co-exist in a carefully managed harmony. The centrepiece of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater which is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. The Crater floor is a natural sanctuary for thousands of animals and many species of insects and birds. Lush highlands surround the Crater, falling away to the tawny plains and alkaline lakes of the Great Rift Valley. The four main archaelogical sites are: Oldupai Gorge (2 million to 17 000 years ago), Laetoli (3.6 to 2.8 million years ago), Ngorongoro Crater (various proto-historic sites) and Nasera Rock (30 000 BC and more recent). The main route through Karatu town to Loduare Gate is a tarmac road. The roads and tracks throughout the NCA are not sealed, however most are all-weather roads except for a very few secondary tracks.
Serengeti National Park The name Serengeti comes from the Maasai word Siringet referring to an endless plain. It was first inhabited by ancient hunter gatherers and pastoralists. The central Serengeti was declared a Game Reserve in 1929. In 1951, the Reserve became Tanganyika’s first National Park which included the Ngorongoro Crater. Further alterations took place in 1959 in the Park, part of the Serengeti plains and the highlands were removed and added to the Ngorongoro Conservation area, while extensions to the north and south were included to provide more protection to the wildebeest migration. Covering 14,763 square kilometres, the Park is roughly the size of Northern Ireland making it Tanzania’s largest national park. The Western Corridor: In a typical year, the migration arrives between June and July having left the dry plains in the south. It is the giant Nile crocodiles in the river that has made this area famous. Growing up to 6 metres in length, they are inextricably linked with the great migration. The Northern woodlands: Wildebeest move through the northern woodlands in most years from June – October to feed on the longer grasses that persist in this area. Although an interesting place to visit all year round, it is best from June through October.
The plains (shortgrass): were formed 3-4 million years ago when ash blown from volcanoes in the Ngorongoro highlands covered the rolling landscape. The southern grass plains are some of the most productive and nutritious natural grasslands in the world. When the short rains start in November, the wildebeest move south from the northern woodlands. Wildlife’s most amazing spectacles occur during February / March, for 3-4 weeks, 90% of the female wildebeest give birth, flooding the plains with thousands of newborn calves each day. The wildebeest may remain on the plains for several months. When the rains stop, the plains dry out rapidly forcing the herds to migrate west and north. Their departure in May / June marks another great spectacle. The southern plains are best visited from December to May when the migrants are there. The Seronera Valley is a transition zone between the southern plains and the northern woodlands. The most prominent is the Seronera River from which the area takes its name. With year – round water, this is the most reliable area to view wildlife. It is possible to see many of the Serengeti’s resident wildlife including giraffe, buffalo, topi, hartebeest, waterbuck, impala, reedbuck, bushbuck, dikdik, hippopotamus, crocodile, warthog and diverse birdlife. Large prides of lion reside here, as well as clans of spotted hyena. The Serengeti would not be the same without the beautiful rock outcrops known as kopjes. Also known as inselbergs, the intriguing rounded shapes of these ancient granite rocks are the result of cracking and erosion from exposure to sun, wind and rain. They provide shelter and capture water for a wealth of wildlife and plants. The main groups of kopjes are: Barafu, Gol, Maasai, Loliondo, Simba and Moru.

Uganda is a landlocked country located in East Africa on the shores of Lake Victoria. It is packed full of geographical and cultural diversity which is illustrated by the number of Lakes, Forests, Mountains, Rivers, Savannah Grasslands and Traditional Customs that it possesses. This is the principal reason why Uganda is commonly known as the Pearl of Africa” a name given by Sir Winston Churchill in his book “My African Journey.” Uganda is famous for The Mountain Gorillas of Bwindi and Mgahinga and The Chimpanzees of Kibale. No other country has two of the 3 great apes within their borders. The Source of the Nile in Jinja, Tree Climbing Lions in Ishasha, Murchison Falls, Hippos in the Kazinga Channel, the remote beauty of Kidepo and Lake Victoria itself all culminate to make Uganda an incredible place to visit. However, we are sure that despite all those breathtaking attractions it is The People of Uganda that make this country the wonderful destination that it is.

Service Information
Uganda Gorilla Permit-Bwindi Forest National is the main national park for Gorilla Trekking in Uganda. It is Africa’s oldest rainforest, brimming with untamed natural beauty. This swath of steep mountains covered in thick jungle is home to half of the world’s mountain gorillas living alongside some 120 mammal species and over 350 bird species. The trek involves getting a little dirty and bushwhacking through thick jungle with an experienced local guide to find a troop of habituated gorillas. For up to five years, each gorilla group has undergone an extremely delicate process which has gradually accustomed them used to the presence of humans, allowing a few privileged visitors to interact with them in the wild. However, the gorillas are by no means tame! You will be accompanied by an experienced guide on your trek who will carry out a pre-departure brief at the start of the tracking point, informing you of gorilla etiquette’. It is important to be in good physical condition, as you are likely to find yourself climbing up steep slopes at high altitudes, scrambling through, over, and under dense undergrowth with nettles, barbed vines, and bamboo thickets and crossing slippery and muddy terrain. Correct footwear and clothing are essential!
The minimum age for Gorilla Trekking is 15 years old.
Uganda Gorilla Trekking Guidelines · To minimize possible transmission of human disease, visitors are requested to maintain a distance of 7m (about 22 feet) from the gorillas, if you are sick with flu or other contagious illness, please do not visit the gorillas.
· Viewing is limited to one hour
· Maximum 8 visitors per group
· Spitting in the park is strictly prohibited
· When you need to cough or sneeze, turn your mouth away and use a handkerchief to avoid spreading germs to the mountain gorillas.
· Keep your voice low when you are with the gorillas
· Do not make rapid movements that may frighten the gorillas.
· If a gorilla approaches you at close range, or in the unlikely event that he charges, it is very important that you do not move. Remain exactly where you are, look downward, and adopt a submissive, crouched posture. NEVER make any sudden moves or loud noises in the presence of The gorillas
· Avoid direct eye contact
· Do not litter
· Smoking, eating, and/or drinking are not permitted within 200 metres of a gorilla family
· Avoid taking an excessive number of photographs, and Never use a flash when photographing the
gorillas.
Clothing and Equipment required for Trekking
· Carry a waterproof backpack for your packed lunch, drinking water, camera and binoculars, sweater
and rain jacket
· Waterproof hiking boots or shoes with treaded soles
· Walking socks (long enough to tuck your trousers)
· For film and digital cameras, bring plenty of high speed film or inform yourself how to alter the speed settings on your equipment – we recommend a minimum of 800 ASA (no flash photography is allowed when tracking)
· Leather or heavy canvas (gardening-style) gloves
· Waterproof rain pants, a rain suit or poncho with hood
· wear long trousers to protect your legs from being scratched by thorns and grasses or being bitten
by insects especially safari ants. Avoid wearing shorts although you can always pack them for other
activities within the Safari Lodge.
· Short sleeved shirt or T-shirt
· Light-weight trekking style long trousers
· A waterproof hat
· Carry enough drinking water and packed lunch because gorilla trekking is strenuous thus you will need to keep hydrated or replenish your energy during the activity.

Vaccinations and Yellow Fever-We recommend that our guests consult the closest Tanzanian embassy for current requirements. Your travel clinic or physician can brief you on recommended vaccines. The rules for Yellow Fever vaccination state that entry to Tanzania from a Yellow Fever Endemic Zone requires a vaccine. Persons older than 60 or younger than 1 are anyone with a letter from a doctor stating that they are unable to take it. If entry into Tanzania is direct from a non-endemic zone (e.g. Europe, USA, Australia) then no vaccine is required. If you are travelling via an endemic zone where you spend over 12 hours (e.g. multi-country safari), yellow fever vaccination is required for entry to Tanzania.
Insurance-When paying your deposit we would suggest you obtain insurance at the same time against unforeseen cancellation, medical evacuation and luggage loss. Equally important is the need to check that your health and life insurance will cover you throughout your safari. The health insurance policy will need to cover you in the unlikely event of you requiring emergency evacuation or repatriation. This insurance must be obtained in your country of origin.
We are able to offer an emergency evacuation service (Flying Doctors or First Responder) at a small cost. In the unlikely event of any eventuality that requires emergency attention, a rescue aircraft would evacuate you to the closest major health facility for stabilization. Zanzibar is located in the Indian Ocean, about 25 miles from the Tanzanian coast, and 6° south of the equator. Zanzibar Island is 60 miles long and 20 miles wide, occupying a total area of approximately 650 square miles. Its very name evokes romantic associations – smell of spices, images of narrow streets, Arab chests, carved doors and coral reefs. Zanzibar is a tourists paradise, with tranquil, warm tropical waters, many miles of beautiful sandy beaches on the Indian Ocean. It is characterised by beautiful sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs, and the magic of historic Stone Town – said to be the only functioning ancient town in East Africa. Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar, little changed in the last 200 years. It is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab houses whose original owners vied with each other over the extravagance of their dwellings. This one-upmanship is particularly reflected in the brass-studded, carved, wooden doors – there are more than 500 different examples of this handiwork. You can spend many idle hours and days just wandering through the fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways. Visitors have been coming to Zanzibar for centirues. The monsoon winds of the Indian Ocean enabled trade between Zanzibar, Arabia, Persia, mainland Africa and India, leaving the archipelago with a long history and a rich cultural mix. The beaches of Zanzibar are often stunning: powdery white sand, shaded by palm trees. The sea is shallow, but venture further out into the sparkling, turquoise water and you’ll find coral reefs for great snorkelling and diving. Popular as a post-safari choice, a Zanzibar holiday can also be a great stand-alone escape. The island offers an exceptional diversity of accommodation, from simple beach lodges and small boutique hotels to all-inclusive beach resorts and even luxury hotels. The coral reefs that surround the East Coast are rich in marine diversity, and make Zanzibar an ideal location for snorkelling and scuba diving. On these shores passed explorers like Burton, Speke, Livingstone, and Vasco da Gama in 1502 enroute to India. Zanzibar has a rich and ancient past, having been the center for travelers sailing from distant lands of the Middle East by dhows. Zanzibar was once the main trading center for the whole of East Africa. Due to the generally slower pace of life, its tranquillity has survived. Zanzibar can be reached from Dar Es Salaam either by 20 minutes air flight or 1 1/2 hour hydrofoil or catamaran ride.

Accommodation Information
Zuri Zanzibar-Zuri Zanzibar is a beautiful luxury resort located on the Northern tip of the island in the Nungwi area. Zuri Zanzibar is both ecologically and socially responsive, offering high quality accommodation that sits comfortably with Zanzibar’s culture, climate and geography through the use of locally available materials, African-themed paintings from local artists, clever organization of space, and strong references to the island’s heritage and craftsmanship. The majority of the bungalows, suites and villas offer stunning views over the Indian Ocean, whilst a few of the bungalows offer a partial ocean view or are located amongst the tranquil tropical gardens. The resort has three different categories of rooms including bungalows, suites and villas. The resort plays a large part in the local community, firstly through offering local students the chance to study for the Zuri Zanzibar’s own two-year hotel diploma, with subsequent employment at the resort, and secondly by using as many local products as possible. These include organic and locally-made bathroom products throughout the hotel, and natural materials from all over the island that are being used in abundance.

Historical Tour of Stone Town This begins with a visit to Zanzibar’s colorful market. Alive with the buzz of locals bartering fresh vegetables and baskets of tropical fruit, amongst the heady smell of Jack fruit (amongst many other exotic fruits) we continue on to the site of a cathedral built in 1874. The cathedral signifies a potent time in Zanzibar’s history and stands on the sight of a past slave market. Abolished in 1873 by decree of the Sultan of Zanzibar, the cathedral’s high altar stands on the exact site of the whipping post that was in the market. From here we visit the residence of the late Sultan of Zanzibar, Tip Tip House’, the Old Fort, Peoples Palace’ and the House of Wonders’, full of intrigue from days of long ago. The Hamamni Persian Baths can also be visited. The Baths were built by Sultan Barghash in the late 19th century and once served the wealthy locals as the first public baths in Zanzibar. The tour ends with a stroll down the narrow streets of the old stone town, the heart of Zanzibar’s vivacious history.
